Black Mirrors - Funky Queen

Label : Napalm Records | Archive under hardrock / aor

Release type: Full-length CD

Cor : "Belgium's answer to pretty much every rock band out there", or "If Janis Joplin, Jack White, Anouk, Nirvana and QOTSA ever had a chance to breed, Black Mirrors would have been their favorite creation", some quotes revealing no modesty at all. Okay, the band presents a decent piece of music from the alternative rock segment, but descriptions like the afore mentioned, do create high expectations, which cannot be reached by far. Musically this can make one think in the direction of many female fronted indie rock bands from the nineties like Breeders for instance. The vocals do remind me of Blues Pills at times; and that surely can be seen as a compliment! (although some development in variation, devotion and vocal range is still possible). Maybe this band is just a very good live band which makes me change my opinion completely (wouldn't be the first time); they are coming to my hometown together with quality bands Horizont and '77, so I guess I have to check them out playing live.
