Vera : Hailing from Germany, Munich, this four-headed Hailstone harasses us with a sure-fire portion inciting melodic death metal. The band was founded in 2009 and earlier they released the debut ‘The Greater Counterfeit’ (2012) and the EP ‘The Operation’ (2013). Now they are signed by a label (Bret Hard) launching the tempestuous ‘Epitome’ at the world. The guys are influenced by traditional death metal as well as by the scène in Gothenburg (Dark Tranquillity, early In Flames) and Stockholm (Dismember).
Hailstone really speeds things up and from the very outset, when ‘Paragon’ and ‘Celestial Wrath’ blow your speakers, we are regaled with ultra tight Spartan riffs and very fine melodious guitar skills (loads of soloing). The gravel-throated growls of guitarist Daniel complete the massive attack. They have also listened well to Amon Amarth and borrowed their epic and battle-like approach. Yet these ten compact songs plus intro are worth checking out. They play on top notch level and without being innovative, they just come up with a straight forward and energetic bunch of diverting death metal. Sure-fire album!
