Winston : Hey, a new album from Cairo! That was my first reaction when receiving 'Say'. But this is another, new and English Cairo and not the American Cairo which made nice progressive rock / metal in the 90’s. They won’t come back I guess after the death of singer Brett Douglas. So it is a new band and I was very curious about what the British had in store. Lots I can tell you. Former Touchstone singer / keyboardist Rob Cottingham gathered some good musicians and a female singer around him and got John Mitchell (Frost *, Arena) as producer. And this club managed to make an album that can be called very nice indeed for a debut. The interaction between Cottingham and singer Rachel Hill is tuned fresh and good and the band navigates easily between complex pieces and more atmospheric passages. The whole comes across as a good mix between Porcupine Tree, Marillion and Dream Theater but carries its own identity. We’re walking towards the end of the year; it will not surprise me when Cairo's 'Say' will appear in my year list.
