Marcel H. : One of my favourite newer Swedish death metal is back. Now it’s album number four. I was extremely positive about its predecessor ’Relics Of Sulphur Salvation’, which made it to my end-of-year list. So, I was extremely curious if new album ‘Temple Of Phobos’ could match that great album. Right from the first tones of opener ‘Lamentation Of The Mortals’ it is clear, this album at least matches its predecessor. I would even dare say that ‘Temple Of Phobos’ is even a tad better. How is that possible? Well, there’s even a little more variation to the music. A choir surfaces and also some trumpets in ‘Den Klentrogenes Klagen’. The riffs are at times even a little more black metal, without losing sight of the death metal roots. Like I said about ‘Relics Of Sulphur Salvation, it’s at times such as that that it slightly reminds me of Dissection and it’s in that corner one has categorize the ‘black metal’ which is present here. I would like to highlight closer ‘Allt Hopp Är Förbi’. What a monster of a song that tune is. Especially the sparingly used female vocals are the icing on the cake there, giving it quite an eerie atmosphere. ‘Temple Of Phobos’ is once again an end-of-year list worthy album by Vanhelgd. People who enjoyed ‘Relics Of Sulphur Salvation’ should go out and immediately buy ‘Temple Of Phobos’.
