Winston : Prog rock is a genre in which many things are allowed to do. Music styles are combined, merged and integrated with a variety of angles, bands and artists have a free hand. This is once again evident on the debut album from the Finnish Steel Jungle. No hair metal parody, this is a band that makes the most of that free path in prog rock. Someone who did too was of course Frank Zappa and this trio could be his grandsons. The music sways from furious thrash metal to dreamy and relaxed passages and touches on everything and anything in between. This means that you are regularly surprised when listening and that's pretty fun. But there is also something like structure and endurance. Structure is not there and my endurance was put to the test by Steel Jungle. Zappa, King Crimson and Primus meet and dance the samba together. Something like that, but not. To speak with national hero Johan Cruyff; "If I wanted you to understand it I would have explained it better ..." Listen for yourself if you are looking for a nice instrumental challenge.
