Roel de Haan : Enthean is an American outfit and this self released album ‘Priests Of Annihilation’ is their first full-length. Enthean plays a weird concoction of extreme metal genres. Mixing parts technical death metal and symphonic black metal; Enthean aims for a wide audience. Both ends of their musical spectrum are executed fairly well and the added progressive elements are a nice touch, but the combination isn’t quite there. I mean, Dimmu Borgir-like synths and riffs do no mesh well with techdeath noodling and chugging. It all feels forced and the songs sound bloated. Beforehand, it might seem a fruitful combination to explore, but the result of the mixing these musically distant styles is hardly convincing.
