Sicktus : Belgium band Zardens already recorded this album back in 2013, when it was meant to be released as a follow-up to their 2012 debut 'Breeding The Dark', but due to circumstances, the album's release has been pushed back up until now. Zardens kicked off as a twosome, but the line-up nowadays has grown into a full quintet. From the current line-up, only lead guitarist and founder Warnacht makes his appearance on this album, which was recorded as a quartet.
Anyway. These Belgians still make (or actually made, but hey) blackened death metal in the same vein of the style that was big in the nineties. Dissection, Dawn, that area, but not quite as good as those bands did. The leads and riffs by guitarist Warnacht and the excellent throat Pascal Moreaux brings to the table are still the selling points on this album. The band have not really developed their own style, but nevertheless this is quite an enjoyable mid nineties blackened death album that contains a fine mix of power and melody. They have grown since 'Breeding The Dark', so I'll rate this one a bit higher. 'Blackness Unfolds' is limited to 500 copies.
