Wim S. : You must not confuse this band, Maxxwell, with the delicious acid jazz music by Maxwell. This is a heavy rock band from Switzerland who are ready to release their third release, but I have to confess that I had never heard of the band. There is a decent promo machine behind the band right now, all neatly arranged. That will certainly help spreading the word. And musically? Well, Maxxwell is a pretty good band.

In the person of Gilberto Melendez, the band has a new singer and he will do the band much good. This guy Melendez can really sing. High, low, subdued, powerful: he has no problem doing it. And that's good because the band also varies in their music regularly. Epic and powerful (the beautiful 'Gone Forever', also see the beautiful video, ‘Never Let You Go’), but sometimes up tempo and much more metal ('Fuck It'). There is only one more ‘strange’ song, 'Backstabber', in which the band even gets help from a rapper. The music is often played midtempo with a lot of attention for melody and structure. Actually, you could describe Maxxwell as a heavy variant of Bon Jovi and that's meant as a compliment. These guys have found a perfect balance between metal and accessible rock music that can be interesting for both camps.
