Roel de Haan : ‘As The Earth Fades Into Obscurity’ is the first full-length album of the New-Zealandian black metal band Winter Deluge. A small label called Frozen Blood Industries is releasing it on vinyl after the band released it last year on cd. Winter Deluge plays rather traditional black metal in a Scandinavian style. Elements of Gorgoroth, Satyricon and Mayhem are readily audible and it is safe to say that they are not the most original band out there. The production is not very good or bad, raw and natural, which fits the music. The songs are loosely structured and performed accordingly at mostly high speeds. The vocals are the typical black metal rasps and are far too dominant and abundant in the songs and are really overpowering the music. By far the least appealing element of the album. The album as whole doesn’t stand out in any way and if Winter Deluge continues in this way the title of the album will probably apply to them in stead of the earth.
