Wim S. : Riot Horse is a Swedish/Danish band, a continuation of Sons Of Tomorrow. Guitarist Nille Schuttman wanted a band that musically would grab back to the seventies, to the sound of Led Zeppelin and related bands. However, it seemed impossible for him to form a steady line up. Just when he was about to throw in the towel, the band was joined by Andreas Sydow (indeed, former Darkane vocalist) and drummer Jonas Langebro. These four men understood each other and started working on a debut album that now is released, ‘This Is Who We Are’. Musically, the band is midway between (indeed) classic heavy rock but also with influences from stoner and grunge.
Tasty heavy riffs that one moment are clearly influenced by Sabbath or Zeppelin, but at other times are strongly reminiscent of the riffs of Soundgarden or Queens Of The Stone Age. The CD has inherited a big sound so everything pops out of your speakers rather deliciously. Everything seems to be working for the band: the four musicians all deliver convincing contributions, the songs are well constructed (without really special things happening), and as I said it sounds great. Clearly this is a nice heavy rock album for fans of the aforementioned bands.
