Yvette : Via Mistica is a Polish Gothic Doom band, nothing more nothing less. This genre explanation discribes the whole band. Very slow doom with really high female vocals. "Testamentum (In Hora Mortis Nostre)” is the band's first record after two demos.
I have to admit that this is all a bit too slow for me. It's nice background music but it can't really impress me. The band is doing things that are already done a million times before. It sounds good, that's true, but the songs don't have their own spirit. The biography tells us one name to describe the band Theatre of Tragedy, and that is exactly what it is, a Theatre of Tragedy ripp-off! Theatre of Tragedy fans won't be disappointed says the bio… I can imagine that! If you like the genre you definitely like Via Mistica but then again that isn't hard when bands just take over the concept of a good and popular band. Of course, other bands can inspire people, but this is too much.
The one thing that makes Via Mistica special is the cello. Singer Kaska handles the instrument very well and it's mixed very subtle into the songs. The song "Blaze” is the most interesting one on this album because it's a bit more up-tempo than the rest. Conclusion: I don't really get excited by all this but I'm sure there are people who do, so if you recognise yourself in this you will have some good time listening to Via Mistica. Good luck.
