Johan Z. : Hiidenhauta performs atmospheric black with a solid folk base, although someone might consider it folk with black metal influences. Thinking of bands such as Finntroll or Korpiklaani is largely at hand while listening to this, Korpiklaani’s vocalist even performed a guest appearance on the song ‘Hiiden Virsi’. They released a solid piece of work, it is performed very tight and in terms of production there are no complaints either. There is just one point of criticism and that is about the overdose of variation. The album is not a consistent whole anymore, one song consists largely of riffs which could fit a Rammstein album while another songs drums would go nicely with a song from Mayhem or 1349. They used a flood of symphony’s and female vocals to create a nice ambiance, but due to the frequent changes in pace and style they actually killed that ambiance. They overdone it in a few ways, pity.
