Wim S. : I am skeptical when I read that a band has been around since 2007, but only now comes up with an album. What have these guys been doing for the past seven years? Yes , they played a few live gigs. Big deal. In the case of Lucid Dreams from Norway my suspicion proves not justified. For ‘Lucid Dreams’ is a debut album that sounds pretty good! Fans of bands like Pretty Maids, Jorn and Rainbow will definitely appreciate the music of the six Norwegians.
The album shows to be recorded with the help of Tommy Hansen who earlier worked with similar bands. Because like I said before: the music of Lucid Dreams sounds like classic rock from the 70’s and 80’s and 90’s: melodic, powerful riffs, compelling vocals and occasional keyboard contributions . In the person of Fredrik Sindsen the band has a powerful singer who easily sings both the heavier parts and the more subtle songs. Simple rockers like 'Daisy Dukes', up tempo melodic metal (‘Cassie 's Escape’) as well as ballads (‘Lucid Dream’): it just sounds good. Do not expect this band to play original riffs or anything like that: this music is completely inspired by the aforementioned bands. Furthermore, I notice that the keyboards are put strangely in the mix of the CD, especially when the keys play a solo part. Despite that: good album!
