Wim S. : Sleeping Romance is a female fronted metal band from Italy, who make their debut with the release of 'Enlighten’. Isn’t it strange really, the fact that we characterize all melodic metal bands that have a female singer as ‘gothic metal’. As if there is no difference between the music of Delain , Epica , Nightwish and Within Temptation. Anyway, there is no need to really think about how to characterize the music of Sleeping Romance: this is old school female fronted fairytale metal. After the release of just one EP that band signed a contract with the Swedish label Uterium Records and led by guitarist Federico Truzzi and with the help of, among others Roberto Priori (Vision Divine) the band recorded this debut. The voice of singer Federica Lanna is high and (almost always) pure and in terms of technique and use of her voice, she reminds me most of all of our own Anneke van Giersbergen (‘The Promise Inside’, 'Soul Reborn’). In terms of music we hear nothing we have not heard countless times before. Sleeping Romance adds nothing to a genre that has an urgent need for new blood. The riffs and melodies that we hear on ‘Enlighten’ are the ones we know by now. Special attention for the best song on the album, the melancholic ballad ‘December Flower’ which is very beautiful.
