William Kampen : The previous record by Shooting Guns deserved a spot on the Polaris Prize list. A list that contains records that have the potential to be the best record of that year. Do I care? No, cause when I look at the MTV Awards and witness what kind of cow dung wins prizes, it is beyond comprehension to me as well. Still, I decided to listen to this record called 'Dead In Magic: 1952-1976'. Awesome title, by the way. Reminds me of this occult community that injects dusty, hypnotic riffs into your brain, in order to convert you to 'The Brotherhood Of The ram'. That is what Shooting Guns is. An organic wall of sound, consisting out of atmospheric, dark riffing, driving psychedelics and magic. The title of this album would actually suit really well as the bandname for these Saskatoon gents, no? It does not happen that often that an instrumental band can captivate me like Shooting Guns does, so I take my hat off to them. Lovers of the riff, check this album out.
