Marcel H. : Church Of Void is a fairly new Finnish doom band which I hadn’t heard about before. ‘Dead Rising’ in the player and the first thing which catches the ear is that the vocals remind me a lot of Albert Witchfinder of Reverend Bizarre and then especially the melody in the vocal lines. Musically they also look towards Reverend Bizarre from time to time and influences of Saint Vitus, Black Sabbath, Trouble can be discerned. But then again what else do you expect from a doom band operating in this doom subgenre? Church Of Void is clearly a band which will go down well with seasoned doom fans but will not appeal too much to other listeners. Musically it is all swell. Nice juicy melody lines, guitars which sound full, drums that keep it simple and vocals that fit perfectly and it all sounds typically Finnish. Traditional doom which borders on epic doom. Non-seasoned fans of the traditional doom genre need subtract a full point off the score.
