Pim B. : Chile’s Pentagram went with this name till 2012. To prevent confusion with the American proto doom band they added Chile to their name. When these dudes started out back in 1985 I guess they probably never heard of the American band with the same name. Still it wasn’t a problem back then because the band quit in 1988 after having done two demos in 1987. In the underground death metal scene the name kept going around and various times the two demos have been re-released. Also various bands, like Napalm Death or Pentacle for instance, recorded cover versions from Pentagram Chile material.
The re-release of the demos combined with a DVD through Cyclone Empire in 2008 triggered the return of the band around Anton Reisenegger, who meanwhile lives in Spain and is still active with the band Criminal and recently also in Lock Up. They started with new material and eventually started to record in 2011. These recordings were scrapped because the original drummer wasn’t able to drum anymore due to health reasons. With a new drummer the album that now finally is out was recorded. Pentagram Chile managed to sound like the material they did in the 80s, but with a better production. The songs remind of Slayer, Infernäl Mäjesty, Possessed and Destruction. Music that defines the transition from thrash to death metal. It all sounds great I think. There are some guests present on this album too. Schmier from Destruction, Tompa from At The Gates, Marc Grewe from Morgoth and Pera from Dorso all delivered some vocal additions. Next to that the band also re-recorded all the demo-tracks and even a song from the 80s that hadn’t been recorded before. These will appear on the limited digipack and double LP. Connoisseurs will know what to do.
