Roel de Haan : Craar is a new group from Belgium and here we have 'In Solitary Minds', their first calling card. Craar plays atmospheric black metal with a depressive touch. Of course, comparisons with Shining are then obvious to make and their certainly is an influence present, but in the end not a major one. Craar isn't a shameless copy-cat. They incorporate other styles in their music as well. Most notably post-black metalriffing and post-rock atmospherics and repetition, which often gives it a Lantlôs feel. The songs are varied, interesting and full of ideas. 'In Solitary Minds' is remarkably mature for a self-produced debut and I expect to hear more of them in the future.
