Menno : Suicidal Tendencies need no further introduction. Thirteen years after its latest studio effort, the group from Venice Beach releases thirteen new tracks. The album is fittingly titled '13' and showcases a band chockfull of energy. Without much doubt this relates to the feeling of making a fresh start after Mike Muir had to say goodbye to his buddy and founding member Mike Clark (see the interview elsewhere in this edition). Replacement Nico Santora is a youngster and clearly brings in much fresh blood. '13' takes a full hour and shows a band with both legs firmly in the present, though the group its greatest commercial success' will inevitably remain in the nineties. Highlight are the groovy 'Shake It Out', 'Cyco Style', which touches all aspects of the typical SxTx-sound and the awesome built-up in 'This Ain't A Celebration'. With '13', Suicidal Tendencies manages to raise the bar for all band within the crossover scene awfully high.
