Ype : With names like Gorguts, Cryptopsy, Martyr and Neuraxis, Canada is highly valued in the field of technical death metal. Beyond Creation was formed in 2005 and is in my opinion immediately part of the aforementioned family; 'The Aura' is of a high technical level. Given the experience of the band members the high musical level is not surprising: bassist Dominic Lapointe (for instance) is also part of Augury and has a past with Negativa and Quo Vadis. Stylistically, the music is generally less experimental than, for example, Gorguts. Beyond Creation makes use of the more conventional (classical) scales and thereby raises associations with European names like Necrophagist and Obscura. Although it remains a matter of taste whether you find more joy or beauty in experimental or conventional music, the musical execution of this album in itself already justifies the assigned score. The album was released independently in 2011. Now Season Of Mist releases it internationally. Definitely not a bad choice, because apart from the high musical level (hear those fretless bassparts!), the album is professionally produced and may thus compete at the highest level.
