Richard G. : The best of Suffocation, Dying Fetus and Origin in one big fat technical death metal band? If this is your extreme death metal fantasy, then Metal Blade has just made it flesh by releasing Abiotic's debut record 'Symbiosis'. Ok, of course I'm exaggerating a little bit, but nowadays you have to come up with something if you want to enthuse the old school death metal head for a young new band in the genre?
I could have added to the list the names of Obscura, Psycroptic, or even The Faceless and Veil Of Maya. Had I done that, the true metal head would not have even made it until here and that would have been a waste. Anyway, long story short: on 'Symbiosis' Abiotic have combined perfectly classic slam death influences with some modern and technical elements. The vocal alternation between sick screams and superlow growls is simply delicious. The inclusion of not only brutal breakdowns, but also frigging fast thrashy parts as well as fingerlicking good technical chops make for a tasty musical mix of elements from virtually all corners of your favourite genre. Without a doubt Abiotic is the most fresh sounding newcomer to the scene in ages and they should not be put aside merely as the next deathcore and/or technical wheely-wheely band. Past as well as present are honoured in equal parts by this band, go check them out!
