The second album 'Skygods' by the Finnish Demonic Death Judge is again a tribute to the Black Sabbath riffs, actually in the same way like their debut 'The Descent'. The sludgy undertone that these Fins added to the mix is for me personally a great asset. Maybe even more than on the debut! The bass guitar has a greater and more important role than on the first born and gets more room to experiment with extra loops and tickles in the more atmospherically songs. Just forget the short intermezzo 'Latitude' if you aren't into surprisingly different mood swings, but take notice of it as an intro to the Crowbar like 'Knee High'. The monotonous screaming is one to get used to and should have been as varied as the music is! The well placed solo's in the sludge parts are amazingly well placed to make each songs interesting enough not to become boring after a while. The gods are not raining down on us yet, but 'Skygods' is a great step forward for this sludge outfit.
