Pim B. : Sacrilege is a 'weird' band in the history of British heavy music. As with many bands that were influential on others Sacrilege never got the recognition they deserved. Members who had been active in punk acts like Varukers, Warwound and Innocent Victims formed the band and the first demos had a similar vibe and sound. So, fast, heavy and aggressive punk.

After a couple of changes in the line-up the sound changed a bit too. As one of the first bands in England they decided to mix punk with a more metallic sound. Bands like Slayer and Trouble (who differ quite a lot from each other too) influenced Sacrilege what resulted in a pretty original sound on their third and fourth demo. This sound later on influenced numerous crust bands but also a band like Bolt Thrower, so we shouldn't ignore that.

The four demos that Sacrilege recorded between 1984 and 1986 have been put to cd and this album opens with the last demo. You first get to hear the more metal sounding Sacrilege and you'll immediately recognize the influence on Bolt Thrower. The first demo is the last one on this disc and that one is full on punk. All in all a great collection of this English band. On the second cd that makes up this compilation you get a live show from 1986 and some live recordings that were recorded in the famous Rich Bitch studio in 1987. In short a proper compilation of an underestimated band that had a major role in the development of the crossover between punk and metal in the UK.
