Koen B. : It's been a while since we heard from Jungle Rot. Their previous album 'War Zone' was released two and a half years ago but that one differed a bit from the high expectations that preceded it. Of course the band released a DVD entitled 'Live In Germany' as well in 2006 but unfortunately I wasn't able to catch that one in stores 'till now. In 2008, Jungle Rot signed a deal with the Austrian label Napalm Records and the new album 'What Horrors Await' is the first result of that cooperation. On this album, lead singer / guitarist Dave Matrise is the only lasting original member. The band is completed by bassist James Genenz, guitarist Geoff Bub and their newest addition: drummer Eric House.
The group is commonly known as the grooving death metal brigade. Jungle Rot will never be the most creative or inventive band in metal history, but those who believe American mid-paced raw and violent death metal with late Eighties, begin Nineties heredity will surely appreciate 'What Horrors Await'. I am really pleased by this fucker because it's a slap in the face of public taste. The uncompromising songs are decorated with lots of variations in tempo, dynamics and pitch and I'm glad Jungle Rot remained faithful to their own identity, which gives them a special place in the world of death metal. Need I say more? Guess not!
