Bidi : Small Stone Records from Detroit Rock City is a well known supplier of fuzzy stoner bands. Puny Human fits that label exactly and after three years of absence they release their third full length album via this label where interesting sub toppers in this genre like Five Horse Johnson, The Glasspack, Los Natas and Novadriver find shelter. Puny Human though is unfortunately not of that calibre. The band lacks the so called x-factor, which means that they do not sound original and do not possess the capacity to write good songs.
Puny Human makes too much use of Sabbath riffs and the singer has a very monotonous voice that sometimes even drifts out of key. For example during "The Real Johnny Charm” he tries to rock real hard, but then it sounds a bit too much like Danko Jones. I am afraid that in spite of the excellent production by Andrew Schneider (Cave In, Pelican) this album shall be doomed to be forgotten very soon in the full stoner rock genre.
