1979, a little guy with his parents watches the Dutch music show TopPop on tv. From that moment on, his life will change dramatically. A band called KISS scores a world hit with 'I Was Made For Lovin' You ' that year and that's not going to go unnoticed to the little Henk (and his whole family). From that moment on, one after another KISS LP is bought. As music is very important during his childhood, an instrument must also be chosen. Of course, that's the most cool instrument out there, the drum set. In the early 1980s, Henk became interested in bands like Iron Maiden and Dio. LP's one could lend from the public library to tape them at home. Later in puberty there were of course the big four, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth. Meanwhile, fast forward to 2017 I find a job vacancy as hardrock / AOR editor at Lords Of Metal. Since I like to write about music and love going to concerts it's a perfect fit. After e-mailing all kinds of trial assignments, I get the chance to do more with my passion for rock and metal!
In addition to writing for Lords Of Metal, I work with a large Swedish furniture company and I play drums in a classic hardrock / heavy metal coverband. Happily married to Paula, with whom I have two sons, Jeffrey and Tim. Both big rock and metal fans that regularly go to concerts with me.
KISS, The Dead Daisies, Sabaton, Alter Bridge, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Stone Sour, Slipknot, Europe, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Suicidal Tendencies, Moster Truck. So a lot, and certainly not a complete overview. It still is great to discover a new band that surprises.
I'm not that big of a fan of styles like Gothic, Black and Grindcore but that is what makes our music so much fun, there is something for anyone out there!
